For a small country, Jordan has an extraordinary range of climates. Temperatures are largely dependent on altitude; Amman and the north tend to be cooler.

  • - Spring (March-June) and autumn (mid-September - late November) bring pleasant temperatures and greenery. April is probably the best month, when temperatures are warm and wildflowers are in bloom.
  • - Summer (July-September) can be stiflingly hot, particularly in Wadi Rum and at the Dead Sea.
  • - Winter (December-February) can be chilly and even cold, especially in the desert although Aqaba and the Dead Sea remain balmy with temperatures of around 20c in January.
  • - Average daytime maximum temperatures in Amman range from 12.6°C in January to 32.5°C in August.
  • - Any time of the year is a perfect time to visit Jordan.

Ramadan takes place in the ninth month of the Muslim calendar which in 2018 will be:

15th May 2018 to 14th June 2018

Adherents must fast and not drink during daylight hours. Visitors are welcome during this time and are not expected to follow suit, however, opening hours can become erratic.

Jordan is full of colourful and lively destinations that are ideal for ecotourism from the Mujib Reserve on the shores of the Dead Sea in the west – with its water filled gorge & spectacular waterfalls; to the Azraq Wetland Reserve in the eastern desert which is home to migratory birds; to the Dana Biosphere Reserve in south-central Jordan where you can walk through four distinct ecological areas.

Visiting Petra during the daylight is spectacular but to experience it at night by the light of nearly 2,000 candles is an experience not to miss! Walk the candle-lit path through the Siq to the Treasury (El Khazneh) and listen to the haunting Bedouin music.

The ‘Petra by Night’ tour begins at the Petra Visitor’s centre at 8.30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday only.
